Gas Piping and Distribution Systems

Gas Piping & Distribution Systems is not a one-size-fits-all solution. The optimal system for a particular laboratory depends on a multitude of factors, including the types of gases used, the flow rates required, the number and location of points of use, and the specific safety regulations applicable to the facility.

Design, Built and Installation

Industries we cover:
Chemical Plants, Pharma and Biopharma, Construction, Food Science, Production Gas Utilities, Marine and Shipping, Mining Oil     & Gas Industry, Petrochemical, Utilities (Power)

Components required for a central gas system:
1. Gas regulators - controlling the flow
2. Gas manifolds - distributing the flow
3. Gas detectors - monitoring for safety
4. Gas piping - the backbone of the system

Gas Regulators: Controlling the Flow

  • Gas regulators are essential components that control the pressure and flow rate of gas delivered from cylinders to the distribution system. They act as pressure reducers, converting the high pressure inside the cylinder to a lower, more manageable pressure suitable for laboratory instruments. Regulators are typically equipped with pressure gauges to monitor the output pressure and flow rate, allowing for precise control of gas delivery.

Gases covered:

  • High purity gases - Helium, argon, nitrogen, hydrogen, air and oxygen, which are used as carrier gases to vehicle sample to detector. They need to be of very high purity so as not to affect the analytical results or the analytical equipment.
  • Specialty gases - Gaseous chemicals such as ammonia, carbon monoxide, ethylene oxide, hydrogen sulphide and many more, are used in various industries for applications like surface hardening, furnace burning etc. We are able to supply different specifications according to customer’s requirements.

Types of regulators:

  • Line regulator - single stage or dual stage
  • Point of us regulators
  • Cylinder regulators

Gas Manifolds: Distributing the Flow

Gas manifolds are multi-outlet devices that distribute gas from a single source to multiple points of use. They typically consist of a central inlet port connected to a series of outlet ports, each equipped with a valve to control the flow of gas to individual instruments or workstations. Manifolds can be configured in various ways, depending on the number of outlets required and the desired flow rates.

Types of manifolds:

  • One source
  • Two source (Manual, semi-automatic, automatic changeover system)
  • Three source (Manual changeover system)

Gas Piping: The Backbone of the System

Ventilation Checks

Gas pipes and tubes form the backbone of the Gas Piping& Distribution System, connecting the gas source to the points of use. The piping system is typically made of materials that are compatible with the gases being used and the operating conditions of the laboratory. Common materials include Stainless steel (SS316 or SS304) and Copper (BS EN 13348).
  • Pipes and tubing are in compliance with local authorities (Singapore Civil Defence Force and Qualified Engineers)
  • Diameters: 1/4" inch - 2" inch
  • Material: Stainles steel, copper
  • Methodology: Welding, Compression Fitting, Double Containment for Flammable gases

Gas Detectors and Sensors: Monitoring for Safety

Gas detectors are essential safety devices that monitor the concentration of gases in the laboratory environment. They are typically installed in areas where gas leaks are most likely to occur, such as near gas cylinders, manifolds, and points of use. Gas detectors can be configured to trigger alarms or shut off gas flow in the event of a leak, minimizing the risk of exposure to hazardous gases.

Types of gas detectors and sensors:

  • Detector Digital Transmitter - Ammonia, Carbon monoxide, Carbon dioxide, Hydrogen Etc.
  • Detector Analog Transmitter
  • Detector Refrigerant Transmitter
  • Remote Sensor - Acetylene, Hydrogen, Methane, Propane
  • Explosion Proof Transmitter
